Oral care is needed to prevent tooth decay, get rid of bad breath and prevent early tooth loss. If hygiene measures are not carried out regularly or if the oral care product is of poor quality, plaque remains on the teeth, and decaying food remains accumulate in the interdental spaces. This not only gives an untidy look, but also makes the breath stale.

Long-term plaque mineralizes and turns into tartar. As a result, the unpleasant odor is not eliminated even after brushing the teeth, the gums become inflamed and often bleed. Most often, the stone forms in the interdental spaces and at the border of the gums. This predisposes to the development of caries, because under such deposits the tooth enamel changes. Yes, and bacteria willingly multiply on this nutrient substrate. Scientists have counted more than 60 diseases caused by oral microbes.

Oral hygiene products

For complete oral care, you will need a set of several tools. Often people limit themselves to a toothbrush and paste, but this does not allow you to clean the interdental spaces with high quality. But bacteria and food residues accumulate here. Therefore, it is desirable to additionally use other means.

Toothbrushes

The toothbrush is selected individually. When buying it, you need to take into account the stiffness of the bristles, size, ease of gripping the handle. Most people use medium hard brushes. Soft bristles are needed for cleaning sensitive teeth and bleeding gums, while hard bristles are needed for perfectly healthy teeth and for caring for dentures. Brush your teeth twice a day for about 2 minutes. The brush should be changed every 3 months. By the way, a biodegradable toothbrush is one of the best options.

Toothpastes

Toothpaste is an important oral care product. Pastes are therapeutic and prophylactic, creamy and gel-like, with different fluorine content. Medicinal pastes are selected only on the recommendation of a doctor; it is not necessary to independently purchase specialized oral hygiene products for prevention. Natural toothpaste should be changed every few months.

In some cases, it may be necessary to use several agents with different effects. For example, with a predisposition to the development of caries and periodontitis (inflammation of the tissues around the teeth), the dentist may recommend brushing your teeth with anti-caries paste in the morning, and with anti-inflammatory paste in the evening.

Dental floss

Dental floss is designed to clean interdental spaces. She has several varieties: flat, round, twisted, covered with wax or without it. You need to choose floss taking into account individual characteristics, focusing on the distance between adjacent teeth. Dental floss is a great addition to other oral care products.

Tongue cleaners

Cleaning the tongue from plaque helps keep the mouth clean. To do this, you can use toothbrushes with a rubber ribbed surface or purchase special tools. It is necessary to clean the back (top) of the tongue and its lateral surfaces, making movements towards its tip.

Mouthwashes

The rinse should be applied at least twice a day for 30 seconds. With regular use of this liquid oral hygiene product, additional cleaning of the teeth and mucous membranes occurs. Rinses as part of complex care help remove plaque, bacteria and their metabolic products from hard-to-reach areas of the oral cavity. This is provided by 4 components of the rinse: purified essential oils of thymol, eucalyptol, menthol and methyl salicylate.
